Avon Boat Courses and What We Offer
Created to meet the increasing demand from people wishing to develop better Inland Waterways Boat Handling and Navigation skills, Avon Boat Courses is able to offer High Grade Tuition surrounded by the sheer natural beauty provided by the River Avon.

Our courses are About Being Confident in any situation. Our training is educational, but also great fun as our courses are mostly practical. The theories of boating then become more easily understood.

The training is carried out either on our own boats or on yours. The objective is that you learn what you need to know while enjoying boating to the full, and becoming a more knowledgeable and safer boat user on the way.

We cater for beginners, new to the joys of boating, as well as for the more experienced amongst us, who might wish to broaden and improve their range of skills.

The Founder and Chief Instructor
The Founder and Chief Instructor Willie Arnold, has a lifetime of boating experience. Much of this has been gained on the Norfolk Broads, the River Thames and more recently on the River Avon and with many types of boats.

Willie Arnold has been an RYA Qualified Instructor for the Inland Waterways Helmsman’s Certificate, and also has extensive educational experience as school teacher. This wide experience of teaching enables him to be sympathetic to the needs of all course participants

The Location
Avon Boat Courses operates on the River Avon and is based in the picturesque village of Wyre Piddle.

This exceptional location provides an ideal setting in which to learn new or perfect existing boat-handling skills. We operate from our own private moorings and from an established boat yard only minutes away. Wyre Piddle also has its own riverside pub, an attractive lunchtime venue with beautiful views and rich supply of river wildlife.
